About The Berkana Foundation

Because mothers deserve to be cared for, too.  The Berkana Foundation was created from a simple belief: when a baby is born, a mother is born too—and she deserves just as much care, attention, and support.

We talk so much about preparing for the baby. The nursery, the stroller, the tiny clothes, the car seat. But somewhere along the way, the mother can become an afterthought. The Berkana Foundation exists to change that.  I created Berkana because I believe mothers deserve to feel seen, supported, and cared for during one of the biggest transitions of their lives.

Postpartum can be beautiful, exhausting, overwhelming, joyful, lonely, and everything in between—and no mother should feel like she has to navigate it alone.  What started as a desire to help mothers has grown into a mission to create postpartum care, connection, and community for women who need it most.  Through The Berkana Foundation, we provide postpartum care bags filled with thoughtful items meant to remind mothers that they matter, too. We also work with community organizations, shelters, and local businesses to bring these resources directly to mothers who may not otherwise have access to them.

A little about me

I’m Alicia, the mom behind The Berkana Foundation.  A mom of three who is passionate about supporting women and creating the kind of community where mothers don’t feel forgotten once the baby arrives. I believe in the power of small acts of kindness—and that sometimes something as simple as a care package, a thoughtful note, or knowing that someone is thinking about you can make a much bigger difference than we realize.

Berkana is deeply personal to me because I don’t believe motherhood should mean putting yourself last. Self-care isn’t selfish. Asking for help isn’t weakness. And no mother should have to do it all alone.  My hope is that The Berkana Foundation can help build a bigger village around mothers—one care bag, one conversation, and one community at a time.

Our name

Berkana comes from the ancient rune associated with birth, growth, renewal, and new beginnings.  It felt like the perfect name for what we’re trying to create.

Because postpartum isn’t just the end of pregnancy. It’s the beginning of something entirely new.  And mothers deserve to be cared for through that beginning.

Together, we can nurture mothers and strengthen beginnings.
